Tyra Merker is a PhD student at the University of Oslo. She is interested in how competition, or lack thereof, affects economic outcomes. Her job market paper focuses on the so-called uniform pricing puzzle; the question of how uniform pricing across geographic markets appears to be unaligned with profit maximizing behavior.
She is also analyzing how competition affects investments in new technology, how investments in labor saving technology affects productivity, and cartel formation in markets with differentiated products. She uses a novel data set of itemized receipts, covering 99.9% of the Norwegian grocery market, in several projects.
